Prime Purpose

As the Director of Technical Development with 15+ years in SW/HW and/or RF/Antenna development, you will oversee the end-to-end development of the User Terminal (UT), managing all aspects including requirements gathering, design, and the implementation of software, hardware, mechanical engineering, RF, and antenna systems. You will lead the efforts for verification, type approval, and field support processes, ensuring that the UT meets industry standards and customer expectations.

In this leadership role, you will manage lead engineers across multiple disciplines, fostering cross-functional collaboration to ensure that key development milestones are achieved on time. You will be responsible for driving technical decision-making, aligning project goals with business objectives, and providing strategic guidance to the engineering teams.

As the key technical authority, you will also interface with corporate leadership and external stakeholders, providing updates, resolving critical challenges, and ensuring that the product development aligns with broader company goals.

Responsibilities

Main Responsibilities and Tasks

  • Lead and manage the SW, HW, ME, RF, and Antenna engineering teams throughout the development lifecycle, ensuring cross-functional collaboration and alignment with project goals.
  • Oversee and drive the successful completion of key development milestones, including PRD, PDR, CDR, FDR, and QA, ensuring teams meet deadlines and deliverables on time.
  • Provide strategic technical leadership and hands-on support to guide teams through complex challenges, promoting innovation while maintaining project efficiency and quality.
  • Ensure alignment between technical objectives and overall project direction, maintaining oversight of progress and resolving any potential roadblocks that may impact timelines or quality.
  • Serve as the primary technical liaison with customers, leading technical discussions, ensuring clear communication, and addressing any concerns or requests from the client.
  • Make key technical decisions based on a comprehensive analysis of trade-offs and priorities, balancing innovation, cost, and time-to-market considerations.
  • Collaborate closely with corporate executives, providing high-level technical updates, discussing critical development challenges, and offering strategic recommendations.
  • Partner with business and sales units, offering technical expertise and insight to support strategic initiatives, ensuring that development efforts are aligned with business objectives and market needs.
  • Lead the resolution of complex tier 4 technical field issues, working closely with teams to troubleshoot and resolve customer problems efficiently, ensuring satisfaction and timely issue resolution.
  • Foster a high-performance team culture, mentoring and developing engineering talent while promoting collaboration and continuous improvement across all teams.
  • Manage global collaboration efforts, including up to 30% travel, to ensure effective communication, project alignment, and teamwork across global offices.

 

Qualifications

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • MS or equivalent in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related field
  • 15+ years in SW/HW and/or RF/Antenna development with at least 5 recent years in an architectural or system role
  • 7+ years of experience in developing telecommunication and/or satellite communication systems
  • 2+ years of experience in customer facing communication
  • Strong familiarity with satellite communication theory
  • Knowledge of phased array designs and implementations
  • Experience with satellite over-the-air Communication field trials
  • Advanced debugging skills for systems integration from RF front-end to baseband
  • Technical management experience overseeing team of 20+ engineers
  • Leadership experience managing and mentoring engineering teams, with a proven ability to lead cross-functional teams through complex projects from concept to completion.
  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills in fast-paced and challenging environments, especially during design verification and troubleshooting phases.
  • Experience in strategic planning and project management, ensuring alignment of team activities with business goals and deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive innovation and influence technical direction, contributing to the long-term success of the engineering team and overall product development.

Pay Transparency

The estimated salary range for this role is $240,000 - $260,000. Actual pay will vary based on varying factors, including but not limited to relevant experience.
